Decorah Police responded to four traffic accidents in the last week

Decorah Police Department officers were busy over the holidays, responding to four separate accidents.

On Saturday, January 2nd, at 10:45 a.m., police responded to a three-vehicle accident on south Mechanic Street.  51-year-old Joe Langreck of Lawler slowed to a stop to yield to pedestrians, but one of the drivers in back of him, 74-year-old Nancy Carolan of Ridgeway, struck the rear of a car driven by 63-year-old Karen Humpal of Decorah, pushing it into the rear of Langreck's car.  The accident did a total of $13,000 in damages.  No one was injured and no tickets were issued.

Also on Saturday, a deer ran out onto Highway 52 in Decorah in front of a vehicle being driven by 28-year-old Sam Beard of Decorah.  The accident caused $2,000 in damages.  Beard was not injured.

On Thursday, December 31st, at 7:45 p.m., 75-year-old David Malek of Decorah backed up in the Fareway parking lot and struck another vehicle, causing under $2,000 in damages.

On Sunday, December 27th, at 3:20 p.m., snowy and slippery road conditions led 16-year-old Derek Hauber of Decorah to lose control on Highway 9.  Hauber's SUV crossed the center line and struck a SUV driven by 21-year-old Gavin Hovden of Decorah.  The accident caused $4,000 in damages.  Neither driver was injured.
