Temperatures in Decorah in 2020 were significantly higher than average

2020 in Decorah was the fifth warmest year out of the 126 years for which records have been kept.
Decorah weather statistician Richard Bernatz says the average temperature for 2020 was 50.03 degrees Fahrenheit, which was 3.63 degrees warmer than the annual average of 46.40 degrees.
The statistics from 2020 follow a trend of warmer temperatures during the last decade--the warmest ever year in Decorah was 2012, when temperatures averaged 51.6 degrees.
2020 was also wetter than normal, but not by the large amounts recorded in 2019 and 2018. A total of 34.63 inches of precipitation was recorded, which was 1.29 inches more than average. 2016 was the wettest year in recorded weather history in Decorah, with a total of 57.58 inches.
Ten months in 2020 in Decorah were warmer than average, while seven months in 2020 were drier than normal. However, June of 2020 ranked as the fifth wettest June, with 10.19 inches of rain, more than double the average for June.
