(The following Letter to the Editor has been submitted by Janet Snider of Decorah):
"I note that the City of Decorah is advancing its sidewalk building program, possibly to the Downing Addition. I only wish the city was as keen about enforcing sidewalk repair ordinances as it is about building new sidewalks in subdivisions with little foot and vehicular traffic.
In July of 2018, I wrote complaining about the terrible condition of the sidewalk on the west side of State Street along the Corner Bar, i.e., cracks, large patches that have disintegrated and dangerously uneven sections (http://www.decorahnews.com/archived-stories/2018/07/19836.html). It is now two and a half years later and absolutely nothing has been done! I know because I live in the area and walk from Fareway to Water Street frequently. I am not disabled but I don't risk walking on that sidewalk. Is there some special reason that this sidewalk has not been targeted for repair?
Where is Planning and Zoning? Where is the City Council's Street Committee? Do any of these people actually walk on Decorah's existing sidewalks? If they did, they might learn something."
