Tuesday accident causes $12,000 in damages

Two people were injured in a two-vehicle accident on Highway 9 on Tuesday evening, according to the Winneshiek County Sheriff's Office.
28-year-old Noe Martines was driving east on Highway 9 between Ridgeway and Decorah and crossed over the center line. Martines struck a car driven by 70-year-old Susan Hayek of Decorah. Hayek and a passenger in Martines' car were both injured and were taken to the hospital by ambulance.
Martines has been ticketed for having no driver's license and having no insurance. The accident caused $12,000 in damages.
The Sheriff's Office has also released details of a second accident, this one taking place on Christmas Eve on Clay Hill Road. 45-year-old Chad Schroeder of Castalia lost control for his car. The car entered the east ditch, rolled over and came to rest on its wheels. Schroeder fled the scene of the accident.
Schroeder was ticketed for failure to maintain control of his vehicle and for having an open container of alcohol. The accident caused $30,000 in damages.
