The Iowa Department of Public Health says a meat processing plant in Howard County has had an outbreak of the COVID-19 virus.

IDPH Deputy Director Sarah Reisetter told a news conference Wednesday that Upper Iowa Beef in Lime Springs has a "confirmed" outbreak, but did not immediately provide further details.

According to the Des Moines Register, Upper Iowa Beef General Manager Ed Greiman says 22 of 150 people associated with the plant tested positive. Greiman told the Register the coronavirus outbreak occurred last month and the plant is now nearly back at full staff.

The Iowa Department of Public Health has reported outbreaks at Tyson Foods plants in Waterloo, Columbus Junction, and Perry, as well as Iowa Premium in Tama.
