June in Decorah saw even more rainfall than was reported -- The Answer Person explains

The National Weather Service Office in La Crosse reports that Decorah received 6.61 inches of precipitation in June.  Actually, however, another 0.83 inches of precipitation fell just before 5:00 p.m. on Sunday evening, June 30th.

So why wasn't the rainfall total for Decorah for June reported as 7.44 inches?  It turns out the cutoff time for rainfall statistics is not midnight or even 6:00 p.m., but 3:00 p.m.  Sunday's rainfall missed the deadline by two hours—so it will be shown as precipitation which fell on July 1st.
