Education funding has been a major topic at the Iowa House of Representatives as the legislature works to come up with an agreement in the first 30 days of its session about additional K-12 school funding.

House and Senate leaders have announced an agreement on a K-12 funding package for the 2019-20 school year which adds $100 million in school funding.  Two parts of that agreement are aimed at providing help to rural school districts--$7.8 million in additional funding to reduce transportation costs for rural schools and $2.9 million in additional funding to give an additional $5 per student to school districts which get lower per-pupil funding because of the existing school funding formula.

State Representative Michael Bergan of Decorah says the Iowa House is planning to debate this K-12 package this coming week.
