"Beat the Blues Winter Marathon" has begun

A winter fitness program sponsored by Upper Explorerland Regional Planning Commission, Northeast Iowa Food and Fitness Initiative, and is getting started this week.

Participants can run, walk, ski, snowshoe, or bike 26 miles outdoors, when it works for their schedule--or play outside for 30 minutes to equal one mile.  They will record mileage totals on a log, which can be submitted via email, mail, or online. Both online and downloadable mileage logs can be found at

Participants who complete one or more marathons will be entered into a drawing for a $50 gift card to a local sports/health business, or recreation center of their choice.   Turn in a mileage log by noon on January 31st for a chance to win a bonus $50 rental gift card from Decorah Bicycles toward the rental of skis, ice skates, snowshoes, or bikes.

Visit to complete the online Mileage LogSurvey or download a hard copy of the Mileage Log Form, then mail it to April Bril, UERPC,325 Washington Street, Suite A, Decorah, IA 52101.  Mailed logs must be received by February 27th to be considered for the raffle prize. Emailed and online forms must be submitted by noon on March 1st
