Winneshiek County officials are keeping their fingers crossed Wednesday.  The area seems to have escaped flooding from heavy rainstorms over the last several days.

Emergency Management Coordinator Sean Snyder says both the Upper Iowa River and the Turkey River are rising slowing Wednesday morning, but are expected to crest Wednesday.

Volunteers from Spillville on Tuesday assisted the Calmar Fire Department and the Frankville Fire Department in a sandbagging operation that filled approximately 500 sandbags for Wonder Creek just west of Spillville.  That sandbagging shouldn't be necessary in the near future--the latest forecast calls for sunshine and clear skies starting Thursday.
