Northeast Iowa RSVP seeking volunteers for new opportunities

Posted: Thu, Nov 9, 2017 10:08 AM

Northeast Iowa RSVP is seeking volunteers to become certified instructors for evidence based health programs offered through Northeast Iowa 3A (Area Agency on Aging).

Volunteers will receive in-depth training through NEI3A to lead classes  designed to help older adults reduce the fear of falling, increase activity level, and find practical ways to deal with pain and fatigue while promoting strength, flexibility and balance. Volunteers may choose to be trained in one of the following programs:

Better Choices Better Health - teaches participants to manage symptoms related to chronic conditions.

A Matter of Balance - coaches older adults about skills and attitudes related to preventing serious falls and injury.

Tai Chi
- leads seniors in exercise, as trained for Tai Chi for Arthritis.

Volunteers will lead classes in their choice of Allamakee, Howard or Winneshiek County. The training time and location will be based on the specific model chosen.

Class participants experience an improved quality of life, fewer emergency department and physician visits, and increased physical activity levels. Class sessions will run from 6 - 8 weeks, once or twice a week, depending on the class being offered.

Contact NE Iowa RSVP for more information about the classes and how to become a certified instructor. Call Kim at 563-277-5180 or email her at
