Ask Mr. Answer Person: "Does Decorah have a 'designated warming center' during cold spells?"

Cynthia e-mails Mr. Answer Person: "I was just wondering if Decorah has a designated warming center?  If someone were homeless or without heat in their home, what would be their recourse?  I noticed that Oelwein did designate a fire station or police station basement as a warming area."

Mr. Answer Person says: "We talked with Winneshiek County Emergency Government Director Bruce Goetsch, who had this answer: 'We have no "designated" warming shelter.  However, in the loss of power we have a few locations with emergency power, including the (Decorah) fire station/city hall.
Red Cross will establish shelters when need is requested by the public via emergency management/law enforcement."
