Ask Mr. Answer Person: "We have LED stop lights--why don't we have LED street lights?"

Jim e-mails Mr. Answer Person: "I noticed a recent question about LED traffic lights.  I, too, am an advocate of LED and have replaced over half of the lights in my home with LEDs.  They're bright, efficient, and better for the planet.  However, I noticed that the new street light placed at the corner of Mound Street and Riverview Drive is the old, usual sodium halide lighting. When will Decorah, along with Lanesboro and Caledonia, join the 21st century and begin to replace old technologies with new?  We should be switching to LED to save the city needed revenue and save the planet from energy consuming lighting."

Mr. Answer Person says: Changes in lighting in Decorah have come about in the past because one person has said, "Why don't we..."  So your suggestion could be the next one to produce a change.

I don't believe the City Street Committee has looked into LED street lights--but I'll pass along your comment to them.
