The Downtown Decorah Betterment Association has kicked off a fund drive to raise the final $23,000 needed to pay for the new Water Street Park.
Work is wrapping up on the gazebo in the park, with the roof being put on late last week. Permeable pavers will arrive from the manufacturer in September and will be installed in October. That will complete the majority of work on the park, although smaller tasks will still remain.
DDBA president Mike Harman says the gazebo utilized East Side School limestone and bricks. The permeable pavers will help with filtering water runoff and will offer a fairly flat surface for the park. DDBA also paid to have the city parking lot redone, so it is safer to enter and preserves more parking spaces.
Harman says there are still naming opportunities for the pavers and for a plaque. Anyone interested in donating to the project should call Harman at 382-2020, Andy Nelson at 382-3647, Chris Miller at 382-4284, David Lester at 382-4666 or Jon Wilmes at 382-3657.
