Now that the Trout Run Trail has gotten a $750,000 state grant to help pay for a bridge over Highway 9, the project is just $252,000 away from having all the funds it will need.
That was the message Tuesday night from members of the Trails of Winneshiek, which is in charge of the Trout Run Trail project. TOW members spoke to the Decorah City Council, giving the council an update on the project and its finances.
The group has raised over $4 million in grants and over $1.5 million in donations. City Administrator Jerry Freund says there is still a lot of work left to do on the trail, but if bids come in as estimated, only $252,000 more needs to be raised.
TOW member Mike Harman concluded, "We're getting there."
